Mrs. Lucille Ray passed away on February 20, 2026, just shy of her 95th birthday. Born on February 25, 1931, Lucille's journey began in the heartland of America in Roseland and Hastings, Nebraska. She was the beloved daughter of Matthew and Clara Klein.
Lucille's life was rich with the love of family and the satisfaction of a career well-spent. She dedicated many years to Afco Finance. In Avondale Estates, Lucille found her home and heart before moving to Covington to be closer to her family. She was a devoted fan of the Braves, cheering them on with the same passion she brought to every aspect of her life. Lucille had a love for words, often losing herself in the world of word search and crossword puzzles. Sewing was another of her talents, creating beautiful pieces that her family will treasure forever. Lucille was also a voracious reader, with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution being her go-to source for staying informed and engaged with the world around her.
Lucille was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dewey Ray, with whom she shared countless cherished memories. Her legacy also includes her beloved sons, Ronald Ray and Jimmy Ray, who inherited their mother's strength and kindness. Her parents, Matthew and Clara Klein, were guiding stars in her life, and their influence is evident in the remarkable woman she became.
She leaves behind a beautiful tapestry of family, including her children, Joanie League (Danny), Debra Brooks, Charlie Ray, and Linda Artigo. Lucille was a proud grandmother to thirteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren, with one more blessing on the way. Her extended family of nieces, nephews, and countless friends will remember her as a source of unconditional love and wisdom.
